Sense of coherence (SOC) is the main concept in the theory of salutogenesis. Salutogenesis ( salute , of health, and genesis, t he origins or coming into existence) has its origin in Greek writings and was actualized in modern times by humanistic psychologists such as Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow and the sociologist Aaron Antonovsky (1923–1994). The concept of sense of coherence (SOC) was also put forward by Aaron Antonovsky in 1979 to explain why some people become ill under stress and others stay healthy.
