Arctic, topography and bathymetry The Arctic is extremely diverse in terms of landscapes, varying from pack and drift ice to rugged shores, flat coastal plains, rolling hills and mountains surpassing 6000 metres above sea level (Denali, 6,194 m asl, in sub-arctic and boreal Alaska). The details of algorithm used for the development of Arctic bathymetry can be referred to the paper from Smith and Sandwell . The assumed correlation in the wavelength between the downward continued gravity and bathymetry is between 15 and 160 km. In the Arctic, there might be errors on the long wavelength components in the gravity. The existing bathymetry map of the Arctic is a compilation of ship soundings and digitized contours. Due to the presence of all‐year sea ice, costly operations and political restrictions, dense and full coverage of the Arctic is not possible, leaving huge gaps between the existing surveys. Arctic, topography and bathymetry (topographic map) The Arctic represents the northermost area of the World, the Arctic Ocean and the land areas that surrounds it.

Accurate bathymetry of the Arctic seafloor is key to maritime safety, economic development, and sustainability efforts in the region. The objective of the mission was to identify the 20-meter and 50-meter isobaths (contour lines), delineating a virtual lane to be mapped for safe passage of commercial vessels and to demonstrate the ability to conduct remote bathymetric surveys using unmanned CP4O CCN02 -Improvement of the Arctic Ocean Bathymetry and Regional Tidal Atlas CP4O CCN02 Final Report Page 8 of 19 5 WP3000 GENERATION OF A NEW COMBINED CRYOSAT-2 ARCTIC BATHYMETRY For WP3000 DTU Space had the task to generate a new Arctic Bathymetry, derived from File:Map of the Arctic region showing the Northeast Passage, the Northern Sea Route and Northwest Passage, and bathymetry.png From Wikimedia Commons, the free media repository Jump to navigation Jump to search Arctic. The rate of increase since the 2012 minimum was near record, resulting in an October monthly extent 230,000 square kilometers (88,800 square miles) greater than the previous low for the month, which occurred in 2007. The map is the 4.0 version of the International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO), an initiative that was created in 1997 in Saint Petersburg (Russia) in order to map the depths of the Arctic floors.

Expanding our knowledge of Arctic Ocean bathymetry (24 July 2019 - ESA) Our knowledge of the depth and shape of the Arctic Ocean floor – its bathymetry – is insufficient. Owing to year-round sea-ice coverage and the cost of research in this remote region, much of the Arctic Ocean’s bathymetry has remained a mystery, until now. Metadata Updated: October 13, 2020 The goal of this initiative is to develop a digital data base that contains all available bathymetric data north of 64 degrees North, for use by mapmakers, researchers, and others whose work requires a detailed and accurate knowledge of the depth and the shape of the Arctic seabed. 41-47 Article in journal (Refereed) Published Abstract [en] Most ocean science relies on a geospatial infrastructure that is built from bathymetry data collected from ships underway, archived, and converted into maps and digital grids. The International Bathymetric Chart of the Arctic Ocean (IBCAO) project was initiated in 1997 to meet the need for up-to-date digital portrayals of the Arctic Ocean seafloor. The original international effort assembled all available Arctic bathymetric data and gridded them using a continuous curvature spline under tension at a resolution of 2.5 x 2.5 km to produce a Digital Bathymetric Model High-resolution bathymetry from the Ryder 2019 expedition to Northwest Greenland. Multibeam bathymetry from coastal waters along Northwestern Greenland, from Thule in the south to Sherard Osborn Fjord in the north.
